Dan Oberlander is a seasoned business management consultant with over 35 years of extensive experience in successfully managing national and global hotel chains. His expertise extends to serving as a principal consultant on projects spanning North America and the Caribbean, specializing in turnaround and growth initiatives for underperforming assets.
Having held the position of General Manager at several hotels in Canada, Oberlander’s career trajectory took a significant turn when he was recruited by Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts to oversee the management of the Four Seasons – Inn on the Park in Toronto. During his tenure, which coincided with Four Seasons’ early stages as a startup with just three properties, Oberlander’s leadership skills propelled him to Senior Vice President of Operations and Development. Under his guidance, the company experienced substantial growth, expanding its portfolio to 23 hotels across North America.
Oberlander’s next challenge came when he was appointed by Canadian National Hotels to assume the role of President and Chief Operating Officer. Tasked with revitalizing a government-owned portfolio of eight heritage hotels and preparing them for sale, he successfully doubled revenues and increased profits by an impressive 400%. The portfolio was eventually sold at a 50% premium over its initial valuation.
Transitioning to Managing Director of Cunard Hotels & Resorts Inc, Oberlander led an international hotel operation boasting seven luxury properties in the UK, USA, and the Caribbean. His strategic direction resulted in a 75% increase in core property gross operating profit, and he further unlocked value by spearheading the transformation of unused resort land into lucrative second-home development projects.
Born in London, England, and raised in Montreal, Canada, Oberlander’s educational background includes studies at Cheshire Academy in Connecticut and McGill University in Montreal. His illustrious career in the hospitality industry is a testament to his exceptional leadership, business acumen, and dedication to driving success in challenging environments.
